| Born as documentary's film maker, won at 24 ihe first prize of Hoberhausen Festival with a courageous documentary about the terrible famine that hit Bengal in 1974. later on he worked as fiction film maker, never forgetting his passion for documentary films which he personally writes and directs. Beloved and highly esteemed author in India and all over the world, his films received appreciations from the critics and public in the most important international festivals. One of his specializations as documentary film maker are the portraits of great contemporary figures in arts, culture. thought and solidarity. He realized exclusive works on the great Tagore's folk singer Kanika Bandhapadahyay. on Utpal Dutt, extraordinary actor who dominated the stages between the fifties and the nineties: on Salyajit Ray. with a 90" film presented at Venezia Festival in 1999 and in major theatre halls in the world: same successful destiny occurred to the documentary film about Indian flute player. Bismillah Khan ( Special event at Cannes Festival). Very recently he has completed a documentary film on the historical figure of the great Bengali leader Jyoti Basu. |
